Tirta gangga, Karangasem

Tirta Gangga is one of Bali’s most enchanting heritage sites, nestled in the lush region of Karangasem. Built in 1946 by the late King of Karangasem, this royal water garden blends Balinese spiritual symbolism with elegant architecture, creating a peaceful sanctuary surrounded by nature. Its name means “Water of the Ganges,” reflecting the sacred connection to the holy river of India and the importance of water in Balinese Hindu culture.

The complex is beautifully designed with pools, koi-filled ponds, fountains, and stunning stone carvings. The iconic stepping stones that cross the main pond allow visitors to walk above the water, making it a favorite spot for photography and quiet reflection. Ornate guardian statues watch over the gardens while water continuously flows from natural springs. This spring water is believed to possess purifying and healing qualities, and many Balinese still visit Tirta Gangga for religious ceremonies.

Lush tropical gardens surround the pools, creating a cooling and relaxing atmosphere. Travelers can explore shaded pathways, admire flowering plants, or enjoy a refreshing swim in one of the crystal-clear bathing pools. The backdrop of rice terraces and Mount Agung adds even more scenic beauty, making every corner worth discovering.

Whether you are interested in Balinese culture, looking for a breathtaking photo location, or simply seeking a tranquil escape, Tirta Gangga offers a memorable experience. It is a perfect stop on an East Bali adventure, combining history, spirituality, and natural beauty in one extraordinary destination.
