Taman Ujung, Karangasem

Taman Ujung, also known as Taman Soekasada Ujung, is a beautiful royal water palace located in Karangasem Regency, East Bali. Built in 1919 by the last King of Karangasem, I Gusti Bagus Jelantik, the palace was designed as a peaceful retreat and a place to host important guests. The name Ujung means “end” in Balinese, referring to its location at the southeastern tip of Bali near the sea.

The palace combines Balinese, Dutch, and Chinese architectural styles, featuring elegant bridges, large ponds, and pavilions connected by stone pathways. The main building, Bale Gili, sits in the middle of a large pond and offers scenic reflections of the surrounding mountains and ocean. The peaceful gardens, adorned with tropical flowers and historical statues, make Taman Ujung a favorite destination for photographers and couples taking pre-wedding photos.

From the upper terraces, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Mount Agung, rice fields, and the coastline — a perfect blend of nature and history. Although the palace was partially damaged by volcanic eruptions and earthquakes in the past, it has been beautifully restored and remains one of East Bali’s cultural treasures.
